Update: Son Of Jackson County Deputy Accidentally Shoots, Kills Himself
The four-year-old son of a Jackson County Sheriff's Deputy accidentally shot and killed himself Saturday night.
It happened around 5:00 p.m. at the deputy's home on Jackson Road in Liberty Township.
A family member tells Fox 47 News the deputy is Mark Easter.
"He is a wonderful father," cousin of Mark's wife, Cammy Rose said. "First and foremost he loves his kids, he's a wonderful husband and he is a good law enforcement officer."
According to officials, he was on his way to work at the time of the shooting. They believe the child was at home with his mother.
State Police are handling the investigation and say it's unclear how the boy got hold of the gun.
Rose calls it a tragic accident and says while Easter is authorized to carry a gun, he would never allow this to happen.
"I know this wasn't intentional and nobody really knows what happened, so there's no point in pointing blame," she said.
The Jackson County Sheriff's Office is planning to bring in grief counselors to talk with staff.
