Neighbor Charged in 2011 Arson
BLACKMAN TWP, JACKSON CO. - Police announce an arrest in a 17-month old Jackson County arson case.
Randy Scott Stevens, 43, has been charged with arson in connection to a September 2, 2011, fire that destroyed a house in the 600 block of Fairyland Avenue in Leoni Township.
In a written statement released to us Friday, Blackman-Leoni Public Safety Director Mike Jester says, "Detectives from Blackman-Leoni, who were working on a different, unrelated criminal investigation in February of 2013, discovered new information about the arson that occurred in 2011. This information assisted detectives in obtaining a warrant for Arson of a Dwelling House on [Stevens.]"
Stevens was arraigned February 15th. Jester says that Stevens lived across the street from the location of the arson and was a person of interest at the time.
