Meridian Township Says 2012 Deer Hunt Was a Success
Meridian Township officials say the 2012 deer harvest was double the success over the year before. 90 deer were taken. 43 were taken during the 2011 hunt.
Qualified hunters were allowed to hunt on designated Township properties to thin the herd that was damaging properties and being hit by cars.
Hunters were allowed to keep their first deer taken, but all remaining deer were donated to the hungry through the Greater Lansing Food Bank. It's estimated that more than 5,600 meals were donated through the 2012 Deer Management Program.
