Poll: Governor's Approval Rating Slides after RTW Legislation Signed
The governor's veto of the concealed weapons bill might stop his recent sliding approval ratings.
It dipped after he signed the 'right-to-work' legislation. A new poll shows a nine-point drop in his approval rating, from 47 to 38 percent.
His disapproval numbers jumped nearly 20 points, to 56 percent. Pollsters found the governor would trail every potential Democratic candidate if he ran for re-election today.
The poll's hypothetical match-up has him losing to Lansing mayor Virg Bernero -- the same person he beat two years ago -- by 11 points.
He'd also lose to Senator Gretchen Whitmer, former Congressman Mark Schauer, and Congressman Gary Peters, according to the poll.
Finally, the polls show Republicans are even more unpopular than the governor, after passing so many bills before the lame duck session ended.
31 percent of voters have favorable opinions of them, compared to 58 percent who don't.
