Graffiti Vandal Sentenced to Probation
The Lansing man responsible for defacing the state capitol building, Jeffrey Handley, has been sentenced to 24 months probation.
He must also pay restitution. This could be around $3,000, though the cost has not been fully determined.
Handley, 20, plead guilty in November to spray painting on pillars, and a nearby war memorial.
The graffiti was found in September; stick figures on the pillars, and the phrase, "give art a chance," on the memorial.
Efforts to fully remove the graffiti, including light sanding, has not fully removed the stains.
Maintenance crews have previously said they hope the graffiti will fade over time.
