“The public can breath a heavy sigh of relief today," said Gene Wriggelsworth, Ingham County sheriff and task force member. It is my belief we have the person responsible. I’m confident we have the guy.”

The Task Force brought together to help solve the case of the recent I-96 shootings believes that the 43-year-old Wixom man in custody is the shooter.

He is currently being held and will likely face charges tomorrow. The man's vehicle was also seized - it matched the description of the suspect's vehicle.

A gun also was seized, said U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Detroit office spokesman Donald Dawkins.

Out of the 24 incidents, only one person was hit by a bullet - a 46-year-old man on his way to Detroit for the Tigers game on October 27th.

According to the Free Press report:

“It’s just an absolute miracle to me that someone else wasn’t injured or killed,"said Wriggelsworth.

Wriggelsworth said investigators do not have evidence linking the suspect to all the shootings, but, “It would be one heck of a coincidence if they weren’t all related." He said it appears the man acted alone.

We'll have more details as they become available.

A 43-year-old man from Wixom was arrested Monday night in connection with the shootings that have been reported along the Interstate 96 corridor in Oakland, Livingston, Ingham and Shiawassee counties.

Ingham County Sheriff Gene Wriggelworth says the arrest was the result of information developed during the investigation over the past couple of weeks.

Members of the task force assembled to investigate the shootings arrested the suspect at his home in the 1500 block of Kings Crown in Wixom.

Investigators says evidence was taken from the house and the suspect was driving a car matching the description of one provided by one of the suspects.

Sheriff Wriggelsworth says additional information about the suspect, including his name, will not be released pending further investigation and a review of the evidence by four county prosecutors' offices.

Between October 16 and October 27, there have been 24 reported shooting incidents along I-96 and several side roads. One driver was wounded.

A $102,000 was offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect.
