Updated with Video: Arrest Made In Brutal Murder of Isabella County Woman
A suspect is jailed in Isabella County accused of murdering 24-year-old Rebekah Jane Gay.
55-year-old John Douglas White of Mt. Pleasant is charged with one count of open murder and one count of premeditated murder in the first degree.
Isabella County Sheriff Leo Mioduszewski says White went into Gay's Broomfield Township house between 2am and 4am Wednesday. The victim heard White enter and confronted him. Sheriff Mioduszewski says White struck Gay in the head repeatedly with a rubber mallet then strangled her with a zip-tie.
The body was found in a densely wooded area about one mile from Gay's home.
White was arrested Thursday morning. Investigators say he and the victim were acquainted.
Gay's body was found several hours later.
Sheriff Mioduszewski says Gay's 3-year-old son was the house at the time of the attack, but was unharmed. Sheriff Mioduszewski says he is unsure if the child witnessed the attack.
