Doctors Seeing Big Rise in Flu and Whooping Cough
Doctors are announcing today that pertussis (whooping cough) and influenza cases are on the rise in Michigan, and want every person in the state to take precautions.
The Michigan Department of Community Health, along with the Michigan Osteopathic Association and Michigan State Medical Society, are urging everyone in the state to get vaccinated against the two illnesses.
All say, even though you may not be worried about getting sick yourself, these are highly contagious and can easily be passed onto someone else, particularly infants.
Babies cannot be immunized against either until they are 15-18 months old, so the organizations say it is particularly important for people in contact with infants to get the shots.
Hannah Saunders talked with a mother who lost her 3-month-old daughter to the the whooping cough last May. She'll have her story, along with more details on the announcement on FOX 47 News tonight.
