The Detroit Tigers had the rest and optimal time for their bullpen to line up the way they wanted it - the San Francisco Giants had the momentum.

Ace Justin Verlander has had a difficult World Series record in the three games he's pitched, going 0-3 with a 5.14 ERA between 2006 and last night.

Before the World Series this season, Verlander dominated the competition with a .074 ERA , 25 strikeouts and a 3-0 record.

Now all eyes will be on Doug Fister, who has won both starts in the postseason, but hasn't pitched since Game 1 of the ALCS - that's 12 days ago.

The Giants will pitch Madison Bumgarner in Game 2. Bumgarner has had a rougher time in the postseason, giving up 10 earned runs while pitching only eight innings in two starts.

Detroit will look to take advantage of Bumgarner's weak postseason pitching, and tie up the series 1-1 before heading home to Detroit.
