Copper Caper Caught on Camera
Two suspects are in jail, accused of trying to steal a roll of copper wire from a Consumers Energy facility in Jackson County's Blackman Township. Each is charged with felony larceny..
Blackman-Leoni Deputy Safety Director Jon Johnston says his officers were alerted at 4:40 a.m. Thursday after Consumers security officers spotted two men on a surveillance camera inside a company complex.
By the time Blackman-Leoni officers arrived at the facility at 1955 W. Parnell Road, the suspects had left.
Two search dogs, one with a Blackman-Leoni officer and a second with a Jackson sheriff's deputy, quickly tracked one suspect down. The second was arrested about an hour later walking along Cooper Street.
The roll of copper wire, valued at $2,500, was also recovered.
The names of the suspects haven't been released, pending arraignment.
