Knapps Redevelopment Project Gets Green Light
A project that is expected to create nearly 200 jobs in downtown Lansing is a go.
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) approved a $5.9 million grant to redevelop the historic Knapps Centre, the last piece of the financing package necessary to get the project done.
The Knapps Centre project will include 22 residential units on the top floor and retail space on the ground floor. The Eyde Company is also planning to relocate its corporate offices there. The Lansing Economic Development Corporation has plans to set up shop too, by building an incubator generating fashion industry jobs and business creation.
Construction is expected to begin almost immediately and be finished within 12 to 18 months.
