A Michigan teenager gained support and respect following a cruel prank at her high school.

As a joke, bullies nominated 16-year-old Whitney Kropp for Homecoming court. The sophomore was going to stay away from the game, but an outpouring of community support made her change her mind.

Students from other schools came out to cheer. Whitney said it's important to stand up to bullies.

"The kids who are bullying you, do not let them bring you down. Stand up for what you believe in. And go with your heart, and go with your gut. That's what I did, and look at me now," Whitney told reporters.

Local businesses provided a gown and styled Whitney's hair.
