Detroit Tigers Need One to Clinch AL Central
It was just a couple of weeks ago that the Detroit Tigers were behind the Chicago White Sox by a few games, and didn't capitalize on an opportunity to take the lead in the AL Central during a doubleheader at home.
Yet after a wild weekend of baseball, the Tigers are beginning the month of October on the brink of clinching the AL Central, following losses by the White Sox and Detroit's key wins on the road against the Twins.
With a win at Kansas City tonight and/or a loss by the White Sox tonight at Cleveland, the Tigers will make it to the postseason for consecutive seasons - the first time since 1934-1935.
After remaining scoreless on Sunday, the Twins took the lead on an RBI single in the 7th. But Prince Fielder answered big in the 8th with a two-run shot that gave the Tigers the lead for the rest of the game. Austin Jackson made consecutive big plays all over center field in the 9th for two outs.
Tonight's game against Kansas City begins at 8:10PM on FOX Sports Detroit.
