Job Seekers to Attend Virtual Career Fair
Lansing, MI – Capital Area District Libraries is pleased to announce a new partnership designed to benefit job seekers in mid-Michigan. On Wednesday, Sept. 26, people looking to connect with potential employees can attend a Michigan Virtual Career Fair, sponsored by Capital Area Michigan Works and the State of Michigan. This free online event allows participants to interact with area businesses in a live, 3-D virtual environment.
Now with support from CADL, even people without a computer or Internet service can participate. Two of our Lansing branches will serve as host sites during the event, offering public computers and Internet service to anyone who wants to attend. Library staff will also be on hand to help participants access and use the site.
“We’re so excited to be partnering with CAMW and the State of Michigan for this opportunity. We see a lot of job seekers at our libraries and we connect them with resume, cover letter, and interviewing resources all the time. But this gives us a chance to connect them to actual employers, which is a wonderful benefit of the virtual career fair,” says Scott Duimstra, Associate Director of Public Services.
Space at a computer station can be reserved by calling 517-367-0813. The Downtown Lansing branch (410 S. Capitol Ave. in Lansing) will have appointment times available between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. and the South Lansing branch (3500 S. Cedar St. in Lansing), will have times available between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
Features of the online career fair include:
· Live conversation between recruiters and attendees (via live chat or webcam)
· Uploading and submission of resumes
· Interaction with fellow attendees
· Viewing of informational videos
· Integration with Facebook, Twitter & LinkedIn
