Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero introduced a new group of volunteers in charge of making sure the city is headed in the right direction financially.

The Financial Health Team is made up of several business, economic and political leaders, including former Lansing Mayor David Hollister.

Over the next six months, they'll take a good hard look at the city's finances and make recommendations that will help keep the city on sound financial footing.

"We're not talking about a study that's going to sit on a shelf and gather dust," says Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero. "We're talking about a blueprint for action, to make sure this city thrives. We're not going the way of Detroit or Flint and we're not going to wait for state government to appoint a team-- we're getting ahead of the curve."

The FHT will meet periodically during the next six months before giving its final report, which will be drafted with the help of Michigan State University.
