Lansing Police Office Pleads Guilty to Impaired Driving
A Lansing Police officer arrested on a drunk driving charge in Clinton County pleads guilty to a lesser offense Friday.
Sgt. Todd Johnson, 41, pleaded to a misdemeanor charge of impaired driving. That charge carries a potential sentence of up to 93 days in jail and a $300 fine. He had been charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, which is also a misdemeanor, but has more penalties related to the driver's license.
Court records indicate Johnson had a blood alcohol content of 0.178, more than twice the legal limit.
Johnson was involved in a car accident in DeWitt Township on August 23rd. He was treated for minor injuries as a result of the accident, The driver of the other vehicle was not hurt.
The 17-year Lansing Police veteran was placed on paid administrative leave by the department. LPD continues its own internal investigation. Potential sanctions within the department range from a counseling to termination.
