Police Launch Traffic Initiative Along I-96 in Ingham, Eaton Counties
It's not every day we can tell you exactly where the cops will be this holiday weekend, but we can now.
State police started a new traffic initiative along Interstate-96 in Ingham and Eaton counties Thursday. It comes after more than 1700 accidents on the stretch of highway since 2009, ten of which were deadly.
While you should be obeying the rules of the road no matter where you are, count on seeing extra enforcement in these areas.
"We've identified this area near Okemos Road, pretty much from the rest area to U.S. 127. And also in Eaton County we've identified I-96 between 496 and Saginaw as where we've had the most significant amount of accidents in the area," said Lt. Kyle Bowman of the Michigan State Police.
Dozens of other law enforcement agencies across the state are also in the middle of a drunk driving campaign that runs through Labor Day.
