For about three months, the stretch of northbound US-127 between the I-496 ramps and the exit to M-43 has been lined with orange barrels. Crews worked to add a third lane to ease traffic flow and congestion. During the project, drivers often had to budget more time into their commute due to the traffic backup.

"Summer is the orange barrel season so you just roll with it, roll with the traffic and pack a lot of patience with you," said East Lansing resident LaTricia Perry.

According to MDOT, they're doing the final part of the project this weekend and expect everything to be back to normal by Sunday afternoon. The goal, says MDOT Construction Engineer Greg Losch, was to have everything done before MSU move-in and before the football season starts. He says the weather this season helped to keep the project moving at the right speed.

"Weather helped us out big time this year. We had dry conditions, warm temperatures and it just played right in perfectly for us," Losch said.
