Year's First Michigan Fatality from West Nile Virus
An elderly woman in Washtenaw County has died, becoming Michigan's first death of the year from West Nile Virus.
So far, 24 cases of West Nile Virus have been reported in Michigan, including one in Ingham County,
This is the highest number of such cases this early in the year since 2002.
Nationwide, the virus is also appearing earlier this year.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 693 cases have been reported in the country, including 26 deaths.
