Lansing School District Changes Up Bus Schedule
In the new school year, Sexton and Eastern will become 7th through 12th grade schools as part of the district's reconfiguration plan.
Initially,the district planned to place 7th and 8th graders on the same buses as the older students. That raised questions even though the administration promised to keep monitors on the bus.
"I was still concerned about what happens at the bus stop. The kids have to be there. There are no adults at the bus stop," said Lansing School Board President Myra Ford.
In response to concerns from the school board and community, the district changed up the plan and promised not only to put younger students on separate buses, but also to give them different pick-up and drop-off locations and schedules.
"We want the school year to start off as smoothly as possible and I think everyone recognized that this was a pretty big concern on the part of parents of younger kids," said President Ford.
The district will send out bus schedules once they are finalized.
