Updated with Video: Victim in Fatal Accident on I-69 Identified
Police have identified the victim of Monday's I-69 car accident as George Douglas Comrie.
The 53-year-old man from Charlotte was a passenger in the car that was hit by a semi following another accident in the same area that caused traffic to be backed up.
I-69 was closed until about 1:40AM Tuesday morning.
Four others were injured in the crash, and were taken to a hospital.
I-69 is back open Tuesday morning following a deadly crash Monday afternoon that shut down the interstate for hours.
Eaton County Sheriff's Deputies say there were two separate accidents.
In the first a car veered off the road, and lanes were blocked off to allow the tow truck to clear the scene.
As traffic was backed up for that, deputies say a semi-truck driver, who made no effort to slow down, plowed right into stopped cars on 69.
One person was killed; at least four others were rushed to a local hospital.
Authorities are investigating as to why the driver did not stop.
I-69 near the Lansing Road exit is closed in both directions because of a semi-truck accident. Monday afternoon. The Eaton County Sheriff's Office and the Windsor Fire Department are on the scene. Still no word on how many people were injured. The highway is expected to be closed for a few hours. We have a crew on its way to the scene, and will update you as we learn more.
