Swamp Fire in Blackman Township
BLACKMAN TWP - Firefighters in Jackson County's Blackman Township were standing guard over a wildfire that could be seen for miles around on Wednesday.
The fire was burning in a swampy area behind a mobile homes park by Dettman Road and Whitlock Road just east of Jackson city limits. The Jackson County Sheriff's office reports the fire began shortly after 2 o'clock Wednesday, and has burned approximately 10 acres.
Because this is in a swampy area, it is difficult to get firefighting equipment to the blaze. Grass fire rigs from several surround fire companies were brought in.
Firefighters were standing by, making sure the flames did not spread to nearby homes.
