With Video: President to Wieber: "I'm So Impressed"
As President Obama was campaigning in Ohio, he said he's proud of the gymnastics team, adding he could never do what those girls did.
"These gymnastics folks... I don't understand how they do what they do. So I told these young ladies as I was congratulating them, 'how do you not bust your head everytime you're on that balance beam?' I couldn't walk across that balance beam."
DeWitt gymnast Jordyn Wieber and the rest of the gold medal winning women's gymnastics team got a call from President Obama today.
Calling from Air Force One, the President told Wieber "I'm so impressed by how you bounced back and led the team. Tell your parents I'm proud of them too. I don't think I could watch if I were them."
The President congratulated all the gymnasts. He told Aly Reisman that he and the First Lady have watched them and decided the women's team amazed them the most. He told Gabby Douglas that she "just tore it up," and "Stay cool."
The President was on his way to a campaign event in Ohio when he made the call.
