East Lansing Mega Bus a Success

I had the opportunity to venture to Chicago this past weekend to visit my friends from high school.  The only way this was possible, since I didn’t trust my own car to make the trip, was because Mega Bus added a stop in East Lansing at the Amtrak Station.

If you are unfamiliar with Mega Bus, it is a low cost bus service that has stops all around the country, which services most Michigan residents to Chicago.  I’ve taken the bus from Detroit to Chicago on numerous occasions so it was time to put the East Lansing tour on trial.

Pros
Price – The low cost bus service cost me $26 to get to and from Chicago and I booked nine days in advance.  The farther in advance the cheaper the cost.

The gas station stop – The bus stops at a full service gas station for about 20 minutes.  Some may want to just drive straight through, I enjoyed the chance to stretch out and get something to eat.

Free Wifi – I had trouble in the past with Mega Bus’s free Wifi on their buses but this time around it worked great.  I was on my phone while other brought their laptops.

Power source – The trip took a toll on my phone battery but thankfully each row has an outlet you can use to charge electronics.

Air conditioning – I enjoy being comfortable and cool when traveling and this bus’s temperature is set very low.

Cons
Comfort level – The seats can only be so comfortable on a bus but I struggled to get settled in my seat.  BRING A SMALL PILLOW.  If you are trying to sleep, I’d suggest something to rest your head on

Air conditioning – I know I said this was a pro but my ride back from Chicago was late at night and it was a cool night.  They still had the air very low and it became freezing on board.  A light jacket solves this problem.

Getting on board in Chicago – The scene outside Union Station is absolute chaos.  It is a mad rush once your bus shows up so be prepared to be in a mad flock to the bus with your city name on it.

Overall, the trip turned out great.  There were zero problems on board and the buses were on time.  It’s a trip I would definitely take again.
