Mid-Michigan Unemployment Climbs Nearly a Point
The unemployment rate in Mid-Michigan continues to climb. Both Lansing and Jackson areas unemployment rate rose nearly a full point in June. The Michigan Department of Technology, Management, and Budget says all 17 labor markets in Michigan experienced an increase in unemployment in June.
"Workforce and employment levels in most Michigan regions expanded in June as summer and seasonal hiring continued," said Rick Waclawek, director of the Bureau of Labor Market Information & Strategic Initiatives. "With the influx of job seekers, unemployment rates increased moderately over the month. However, jobless rates remained well below 2011 levels throughout the state."
Lansing-East Lansing Area Unemployment Rate:
June 2012 - 7.7%
May 2012 - 6.8%
June 2011 - 9.1%
Jackson Area Unemployment Rate
June 2012 - 8.8%
May 2012 - 8.0%
June 2011 - 10.6%
