Ionia Funeral Home Operator Accused of Embezzling $500,000
An Ionia funeral home operator is facing a number of charges for allegedly embezzling nearly $500,000 from customers and insurance companies.
Marti James Schrauben operated the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home. An investigation by the Ionia County Sheriff's Department and the Michigan Attorney General office found evidence of him filing false insurance claims and spending money intended for pre-paid funerals.
The 38-year-old Portland man is facing a total of 27 charges, including racketeering, embezzlement, forgery and fraud.
