Don Blanchard has lived on Illinois Avenue in Lansing for 60 years. He says what happened to him on Monday afternoon was completely out of the ordinary.

"They came in, went into the kitchen and hugged my wife and said 'hi mom.' I said, 'but we don't know you'."

Police say two male suspects forced their way into the Blanchard's house by pretending to be long lost family members. One of the two made it into the bedroom, but was chased out before he could take anything.

"I told them 'you guys better get out of here' and they went on out," said Blanchard.

Police say this could be a trend and similar scams have also been reported outside of Lansing.

"Usually these scams occur in rashes. We've only had one reported here in Lansing so far, so we wanted to get the word out as soon as possible," said Lansing Police Capt. Daryl Green.

According to Capt. Green, the elderly may be targeted.

The suspects are described as white or hispanic. One is about 5'7 with dark hair. The other is about 220 pounds with longer hair. Call Lansing police if you have any information about them.
