Consumers Energy Hits Power Record
Consumers Energy hit an all-time record for electricity usage on Tuesday between 3 p.m and 4 p.m. Demand reached 9,086 megawatts. That beat the previous record of 8,930.
High temperatures weren't the only reason for the new record.
John Russell, Consumers Energy president and CEO, said "weather was a key factor in setting today's all-time peak record, but we also continue to see signs of Michigan's economic recovery as manufacturers add shifts and limit their previously normal practice of summer shut-downs."
