Concern Over Found Grenades Closes Delhi Twp. Street
DELHI TWP - Authorities closed down a road in Delhi Township briefly, while a bomb squad checked out what was thought to be some old explosives.
A woman was cleaning out the basement of her deceased father's home in the 6400 block of Bishop Road when she came across two grenades and a mortar shell.
The woman says her father was a WWII veteran. She took the ordnance to the garage and called police at about 9:30AM.
The road was shut down. The Michigan State Police bomb squad arrived, and were able to visually determine that the grenades and mortar shell had been rendered inert a long time ago.
The explosives had been spent, according to the Ingham County Sheriff's office. The bomb squad took the shell and grenades off the woman's hands for disposal. The road was reopened by 10:30AM.
