ALERT FROM JACKSON CO. SHERIFF'S OFFICE

Cooling Centers Available in Jackson County

Sheriff Steve Rand reports that due to high heat and humidity in the forecast for the next few days, the Office of Emergency Management (OEM) today announced the opening of cooling centers in Jackson County. Cooling centers are facilities that are air-conditioned and open to the public. The centers are located at the Jackson County Department of Aging from 8am-5pm M-F, Lifeways 8am-7pm M-F, and King Recreation Center 8am-4:30pm M-Th and Friday from 8am-3:30pm.

Additionally the Jackson Transit Authority (JTA) is offering "hot tickets" when the temperature reaches 93 degrees or when the heat index is above 102 degrees. These tickets are free to and from cooling center locations. Tickets are located at cooling center stations and the central transfer station. This is restricted to the city bus system only, and does not include the reserve a ride program.
