Dogs, Owners Rally at Capitol to Bring Awareness to Bill
Dogs and owners were at the State Capitol Thursday to bring awarness to a bill banning gas chambers for pets.
Daniel the 'miracle beagle' is the inspiration behind the bill. The dog was put in a chamber with dozens of other dogs at a shelter in Alabama - and survived.
His guardian believes the dog's positive attitude kept him alive.
"I've seen a lot of dogs in my day, because I'm an animal rescuer and trainer. He definitely has a personality in the top five percent. He's just amazing, and that can-do attitude, that positive attitude you're seein here today... I think it's contributed to his success and it's a great human lesson," said Jon Dwyer.
Four counties in Michigan use the gas chamber for pets -- Branch, Berrien, Cass, and Van Buren.
Under Senator Rick Jones' bill, shelters would be required to euthanize cats and dogs by injection.
