Police say it happened around 4 p.m. near Yake Elementary in the area of West and Allen Road in Woodhaven.
An elementary school student said an elderly man in an older, light-grey vehicle, tried to get him to come to his vehicle. The boy got scared and ran back to the school. He told school staff, who contacted police.
Police are investigating it as an attempted abduction.
The school sent out a robocall message to parents to make sure they talk to their kids about stranger danger as police work to find the suspicious man.
Police say they will have extra patrols out around the school doing what they can to keep kids safe.
