A woman suffered minor injuries when she jumped from a third floor balcony to escape an apartment fire.

On October 20, 2016 at 9:58 p.m., the Blackman-Leoni Township Department of Public Safety was dispatched to 2971 Pheasant Run Drive at the Springport Glen Apartment Complex for a structure fire on the 3rd floor of the building.

The first fire truck arrived at 10:02 p.m. and found smoke and flames coming from that apartment and the occupant of that apartment had already jumped from her 3rd floor bedroom window. She was transported to Henry Ford Allegiance Hospital, with what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries.

The fire was extinguished and was contained to the apartment of origin. The fire started in the kitchen and the cause is currently under investigation. Approximately 20 residents of the building were displaced, due to the power and gas being shut-off to the building and are being assisted by the American Red Cross.

The City of Jackson Fire Department, the Summit Township Fire Department and Jackson Community Ambulance assisted at the scene. There were no injuries reported, other than to the female who jumped from the window.
