The Jackson Police Department is investigating a fatal traffic crash that occurred on Monday, October 17 at approximately 1:20 p.m. at the intersection of Michigan Avenue and Elm Avenue.

A 2002 Yamaha motorcycle was being driven by a 34-year-old man traveling northbound on Elm Avenue.

Witnesses reported the motorcycle was traveling at a high rate of speed and failed to stop for the red light at the Michigan Avenue intersection.

A car was traveling eastbound on Michigan Avenue and was struck on the passenger side by the motorcycle. The motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet.

He was transported to Henry Ford Allegiance where he died shortly after arriving.

The 34-year-old victim has been identified as John Andrew Davis. Davis was originally from the Detroit-area but had recently been living in Jackson.

The 30-year-old male driver of the car received minor injuries from glass breakage.

Police say alcohol or drug use does not appear to be a factor in the crash.
