The Ingham County Sheriff's Office is investigating several cases where thieves broke into cars in the parking lots of fitness centers in Holt.
The thieves stake out the lots, looking for people who may have left their valuables in the car while they go inside to work out.
Investigators say women are often targeted based on the assumption that they won't want to take their purses inside the gym. Victims have had cash, driver's licenses, bank cards and personal checks stolen.
The Sheriff's Office is recommending people not leave any valuables in their cars, especially when parked outside a fitness center. Customers are asked to be aware of their surroundings and to call 911 if they see any suspicious activity.
