MLK Observance in Lansing

LANSING, Mich. (WSYM) -- The Lansing City Council held its 37th annual memorial observance for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Friday at council chambers.

They were joined by "voices of hope" from Mount Hope school and the city's Mayor Virg Bernero.

Lansing's Human Relations Director, Joan Jackson Johnson said, it's all about coming together as one community.

"One of the things, and I'm 68, that Dr. King left with me is that we're all the same, you could be a service person, or a highly educated person, he treated everyone the same, so again, reaching out to our community and trying to help heal aspects of our community that needs help and healing."
