Michigan is one step closer to removing its sales tax on tampons, the feminine hygiene products.

Two bills passed unanimously in the Senate Finance Committee last week.

The bills, introduced by Michigan Senators David Knezek and Rebekah Warren, would cost the state about $5 million per year in lost taxes.

The senators say feminine hygiene products are medically necessary and tax exemption would provide relief for working class families.
