It's a small change veterans hope will make a big difference.

You've heard of post traumatic stress disorder.

Veterans said it's time for a name change, and they hope it changes a negative stigma.

Veterans are trying to bring awareness to how hurtful the term PTSD can be. They don't want to be labeled as mentally disordered.

They said injury is a nicer term.

"If I say you're not mentally disordered, you have an injury and you need help and we can get you some help, they're more willing to accept or seek help," Kent Hall said.

That's why the state of Michigan is hoping this name change will bring more people forward to fix this problem. Michigan is making June 27th PTSI day to help the mental state of the veterans.

The 22 shoes on the steps represent the number of veteran's lives lost to suicide everyday. They are hoping this day will bring that number down.

"There's a rare chance to speak to the general public. It is to say it is a wound, it's not a weakness and it's honorable. You've suffered you've survived. You carry something with you. You're not crazy, but you deserve the respect of those around you," Dr. Frank Ochberg said.

Ochberg said holding this event is a way for the public to become more aware and to be more knowledgeable about what veterans go through to get them the help they deserve.
