A Jackson man will need surgery after being attacked by his own dog. It happened inside the man's home on the 100 block of Bates Street around 8:30 Saturday morning.
Jackson police tell us the man was trying to get some sort of trash out of the dog's mouth. Then the young pit-bull mix turned on him, badly hurting him on his head and face.
The man went to a local hospital, but was later transferred to the University of Michigan.
The dog will be put down after the owners sign a release form. Police think that will happen on Monday.
