The driver of the crash on I-94 Friday August 18, has been identified as 27-year-old Nicholas A Herman of the Livonia/Westland area.

The single vehicle crash happened before 11:31 p.m. Friday. Sheriff deputies, Jackson County Community Ambulance, and Grass Lake Township personnel responded to the accident. It happened on I-94 near Mount Hope Road in Grass Lake Township.

Herman was driving a 2004 Mazda sedan when the vehicle lost control and left the roadway. It went through the median and struck the cable guard rail, causing the vehicle to overturn into the west bound lanes.

Herman was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt, and alcohol appears to be a factor. The crash is still under investigation.
