Hundreds of fire figthers, law enforcement officers and local officials joined the family and friends of Lansing Fire Department Captain Stephen Babcock at a memorial service Wednesday.

Capt. Babcock died February 3, 2016 of non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. He was 65.

Babcock was well known in the community, serving for several years as the Lansing Fire Department's public information officer.

Officers who Captain Babcock served with during his 22 years with the Lansing Fire Department spoke at the public memorial at Trinity Church.

Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero presented Captain Babcock's widow, Mary, with a key to the city.

A video was shown, featuring highlights of Babcock's life, as well as many of the appearances he made in the local media.

In a statement last week the fire department's emergency management chief, Mike Tobin said, "Steve truly was the 'Face' of LFD."
