Around 3:30 Jackson city police were called to the 1100 block of South Milwaukee for reports of shots fired.

Denise Cox and her sister knew they lived in a rough part of town but now it's really affected them.

"First of all our fence is gone here then our other fence" said homeowner Denise Cox. "Some of the fence pieces flew through our window."

During police's initial investigation, they found a car crashed into a house two block away to Cox's home.

"I heard a noise in the house and I said I don't know what kind of noise that is my sister called me to come downstairs that somebody had hit the house" Cox said after the car crashed into her home.

Police believe the driver was shot on the 1100 block of South Milwaukee then drove to the 900 block before crashing into a home.

They say the driver was a 23-year old Lansing man who was then taken to Henry Ford Allegiance where he later died from his injuries.

Sgt. Jennifer Flick says the investigation is ongoing but it's difficult with no leads, "we don't know where to take the investigation," Sgt. Flick said. "We do have some evidence that we're going to be going over the weekend. And we're gonna go back and re-canvass later."

She says whenever it gets warmer the department expects to handle more crime.

"Snow storms people don't want to be out as much so there's not as much crime. Warmer weather, hotter weather there is more crime" Sgt. Flick said.

Denis Cox agrees because when she heard gun shots Saturday morning, she wasn't surprised.
