Former school principal admits to embezzling school funds

A former principal at the Parkside Middle School in Jackson County has admitted to stealing money from the school.

Kelly Gilliam-Pennington pleaded guilty to one felony count of embezzlement of $20,000 or more, but less than $50,000 dollars Friday.

She admitted to writing $50,000 dollars in fraudulent checks between 2013 and 2015 out of the school's "Principal Fund" for her own personal use.

Gilliam-Pennington faces up to 10 years in prison when she's sentenced on January 11th, 2017 at 8:30a.m. in Circuit Court Judge Susan Beebe's courtroom.
