On Friday, East Lansing Police Department enacted a 'Fair and Partial Policing Policy.'

They are not calling it a Sanctuary City, the policy seems to be going against a federal mandate on immigration.

The policy is aimed at treating everyone equally, regardless of their immigration status.

Deputy Chief Steve Gonzalez says this policy will stop officers from asking people their immigration status or for their documentation.

He told FOX 47's Marcus Dash that they are not immigration enforcers, that is not there job as local police officers, "the police department will not be holding anybody, or detaining anybody on civil detainer."
