Saturday, October 28 is National Drug Take Back Day. This is a day when Michigan residents can dispose of unneeded prescription medications safely.

Local agencies across the state are partnering with the Drug Enforcement Administration to allow the public an opportunity to drop off unused pills which can lead to pill abuse and theft at home.
According to Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan prescription medications are among the most commonly abused drugs in the United States. There has been a 15 year incrase in opioid overdose deaths, and BCBSM believes that is directly related to overdoses from prescription opioids.
In previous Take Back events, the DEA and its partners have taken in over 8.1 million pounds—more than 4,050 tons—of pills.
