The Michigan Secretary of State's online service system will be down beginning Thursday through Saturday.

A spokesperson for the Secretary of State office says upgrades need to be made on it's current system because Hewlett-Packard Enterprise Co. failed to deliver a new one. As a result, the state has terminated its contract with Hewlett-Packard.

"We continue to look for a replacement for the failed HP system that will provide a permanent solution to make sure Michigan residents can hop online instead of having to go in line,” Secretary of State Ruth Johnson said. “In the meantime, we’re doing all we can to ensure the existing systems work as effectively and conveniently as possible.”
During the scheduled maintenance when ExpressSOS.com will be down, customers can still renew their license plate tabs or watercraft registration online using an alternative Online Renewal System.

When ExpressSOS.com is back online, eligible customers can renew tabs, renew or replace their driver’s license or ID card, process address changes or request a duplicate title or registration. With the Print ’N Go option, customers can print a proof-of-purchase receipt and drive while they wait for their tabs or license to come in the mail.
