Best real-estate markets in 2016, ranked by WalletHub

WalletHub ranked 300 cities in the U.S. to show the best and worst real estate markets for homebuyers. Some may come as no surprise, but others may make you rethink your next move. 

Michigan has four cities ranked in the top 100 for best real-estate markets: 

  • Grand Rapids: 57 overall 
  • Ann Arbor: 70 overall 
  • Sterling Heights: 87 overall 
  • Livonia: 92 overall

Markets were also ranked based on affordability & economic environment as well as a separate real-estate market ranking. 

  • Grand Rapids: 63 for real-estate market and 57 for affordability & economic environment
  • Ann Arbor: 79 for real-estate market and 84 for affordability & economic environment
  • Sterling Heights: 116 for real-estate market and 63 for affordability & economic environment
  • Livonia: 131 for real-estate market and 31 for affordability & economic environment

Michigan also had cities ranked in the top 100 of worst real estate markets: 

  • Detroit: 3 overall
  • Flint: 6 overall
  • Lansing: 95 overall
  • Warren: 97 overall

  • Detroit: 297 for real-estate market and 293 for affordability & economic environment
  • Flint: 296 for real-estate market and 256 for affordability & economic environment
  • Lansing: 194 for real-estate market and 240 for affordability & economic environment
  • Warren: 210 for real-estate market and 59 for affordability & economic environment
