Update: Fifth Person Dies in Michigan From Fungal Meningitis

A fifth person has died from fungal meningitis in Michigan, a 79-year-old woman in Oakland County.
Overall, there are 53 cases of meningitis, including 5 deaths.


In addition, one Michigan woman died from meningitis in Indiana; she is counted among Indiana's cases because she was treated and died in that state.

 


 

A fourth person in Michigan has died from fungal meningitis.

The Department of Community Health says it was a 62-year-old man from Washtenaw County. Overall, there are 49 cases of meningitis in the state.

The numbers are growing nationally as well. There have been 257 cases, and 20 deaths.
