Huron High School in Ann Arbor was placed on lockdown Friday after reports of a suspicious person on the property, according to Ann Arbor police.

Police say the principal reported seeing an unidentified subject enter the school wearing a mask and a hoodie. One student tells 7 Action News that he witnessed the masked man come into the school.

A large police response could be seen as they worked to clear the situation. A number of students tell 7 Action News that some sort of prank caused the lockdown.

Students tweeted during the ordeal.

All afternoon and evening events were canceled at Huron for Thursday.

Superintendent Jeanice K. Swift released this statement:

I want to thank the multiple law enforcement first responders who ensured that Huron High School was safe and secure for all of our students, faculty and staff. Special thanks to our Huron staff for their exemplary efforts on behalf of students throughout this episode.

The safety of all of our students and staff is and always will be our top priority.

I am proud that throughout this afternoon, thanks to the prompt and effective implementation of our emergency procedures and the support of law enforcement, our students remained safe at school at all times.
