Fireworks can be a nuisance for a lot of people from pet owners to parents to even veterans. they're a safety issue as well.

With the Fourth of July fast approaching, make sure you are up to date with the latest regarding fireworks.

"Make sure you're 25ft away from buildings. The 25ft rule is not just a good rule for buildings, but to keep children away"

State Fire Marshal Kevin Sehlmeyer said one way to keep fireworks safe is to follow the basic rules.

"You know a lot of folks are reaching out and saying when or when can I? You have to take into consideration where you live, and you need to stay within those rules that are identified by the local forms of government," he said.

No matter where you live, state law says you can only set off fireworks from private property. It's illegal to do it on public property like streets and sidewalks.

Times depend on local ordinances. no matter when fireworks are allowed. The fire marshal is asking you to think about your neighbors before lighting them.

"We understand that some folks especially younger children have problems with the noise. We also wanna keep pets away from areas where they are lighting fireworks."
